Bob Crabtree was educated at New College, Oxford with Malcolm Green, did his Ph.D. with Joseph Chatt at Sussex University and spent four years in Paris in Hugh Felkin's lab at the CNRS Natural Products Institute, headed at that time by Derek Barton. In 1977 he came to the US as an Assistant Professor at Yale, where he is now Whitehead Professor of Chemistry. He has been A.P. Sloan Foundation Fellow and Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar, received the ACS and Royal Soc. of Chem. Awards for organometallic chemistry and has been Chair of the Division of Inorganic Chemistry of ACS. He has also received the Mack (Ohio State), Karcher (Oklahoma), Job (Memorial U) and Kolosapoff (Auburn U, 2010) Awards, been an H.C. Brown Lecturer at Purdue University, Dow lecturer at Berkeley, Sabatier Lecturer at Toulouse, Williams Lecturer at Oxford, Osborn Lecturer at Strasbourg, Mond Lecturer (UK) and visiting Professor at the Universities of Paris, Toulouse and Montpellier.

Madeleine M. Joullié was born in Paris, France, but grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She came to the United States to study chemistry and obtained a B.S. degree in chemistry from Simmons College in Boston. She went to the University of Pennsylvania, earning an M.S. in 1950 and a Ph.D. in 1953, under the guidance of Professor Allan R. Day. Madeleine Joullié then joined the faculty at Penn, where she was one of the first woman professors to earn tenure in chemistry in the Ivy League. Her research interests are in the areas of heterocyclic, medicinal, and natural products chemistry. Her laboratory has focused on the chemistry of the cyclopeptide alkaloid and didemnin families of natural products, as well as the development of compounds for the visualization of latent fingerprints as a forensic tool in law enforcement. Professor Joullié has held several visiting professorships and been recognized by many awards. She is currently the Class of 1970 Term Chair Professor of Chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania, and continues her teaching and research efforts.

Moinuddin Sarker, Ph.D., MCIC, FICER, MInstP, has been working as the Vice President (VP) of Research and Development and Head of Science Team (VP and CTO), at the Natural State Research (NSR), Inc at Stamford, CT and the inventor of NSR’s award winning technology to convert municipal waste plastics into liquid hydrocarbon fuel. He has a M. Sc. (1992) and Ph. D. degree in Chemistry from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), Manchester, UK (1996). He has more than 23 years of professional research experience in different universities and research organizations all over the world including the US, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, Taiwan, Bangladesh and the UK. During his research work, he carried out research in four different synchrotron radiation sources around the world: CRCL lab. Daresbury, Warrington, Cheshire, UK (1991-1996), Synchrotron Radiation Research Center (SRRC), Hsinchu, Taiwan, R.O.C (1996-1999), Berlin Electron Storage Ring Company for Synchrotron Radiation (BESSY II) (2000) and Advance Photon Sources (APS), Chicago, USA (2001-2004). He has three patent pending and 100 research publications to his credit in pier reviewed journals and conferences. Dr. Sarker is a distinguished member of 30 professional organizations such as American Association of Naval Engineer (ASNE), Association of Consumer Growth (ACG), Society of Automobile International (SAE), American Chemical Society (ACS), American Physical Society (APS), American Institute of Chemical Engineering (AIChE), International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC), Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC), Canada and many more. Dr. Sarker has been invited speaker various conferences in around the USA and World. Dr. Sarker is the inventor of the technology and product entitles: “Method for converting waste plastics to lower – molecular weight hydrocarbons, particularly hydrocarbon fuel materials and the hydrocarbon material produced thereby” (US and International Patent Pending). In 2010, Dr. Sarker has received, the International Renewable Energy Innovator of the year Awards 2010 at Washington DC and presented by Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), USA. Currently Dr. Sarker serve as a President of AEE-CT Chapter (Association of Energy Engineers, CT Chapter) since 2012.

Robin Polt began doing chemistry in Prof. Marty O’Donnell’s lab at IUPUI. After that he was trained in the art of Organic Synthesis in the laboratories of Professors Gilbert J. Stork at Columbia University and Dieter Seebach at the ETH in Zürich. He has continued to develop useful synthetic methods for amino acids, amino alcohols, glycosides and glycopeptides. Polt has mentored undergraduates, Ph.D. students from the USA, Czech Republic, China, India, Iran, Ireland, Kenya, Korea, Mexico and Sri Lanka, as well as post-doctoral students who have taken positions in academia, industry and government labs.

Steven J. Langford received his BSc (Hons I) and Ph.D. from the University of Sydney in 1994. After postdoctoral work in the UK under the auspices of a Ramsay Memorial Fellowship with Sir J. Fraser Stoddart FRS investigating the formation of topologically interesting molecular assemblies for molecular device development, and at the University of UNSW as an ARC Postdoctoral Fellow investigating electron transfer processes in giant multichromophoric systems, he joined the School of Chemistry at Monash University in 1998. Here, his interests in diverse areas such as nanoscaled devices, photosynthetic mimicry, sustainable chemistry, molecular logic gates and motor neuron disease were developed. He was appointed Professor of Organic Chemistry in 2006, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Science (2009-2012) and Head of School of Chemistry in 2010 at Monash. Since 2012, he has also been Director of Monash’s Green Chemical Futures. His research interests focus on concept transfers from nature, particularly in the areas of solar energy conversion, fluorescence and molecular device functionality. He has published over 150 research articles and was awarded the 2006 Young Investigator Award by the Society of Porphyrins and Phthalocyanines.

My interests focuss around the energy transduction properties of photosynthetic systems and the potential use of the principles involved to design and evaluate wholly synthetic systems that mimic all or part of this process for applications as molecular batteries, molecular logic, energy transduction devices and for solar energy conversion. Stable funding through the NCG Schemes since 2002 has allowed our independent research to flourish in the area of self-assembling multichromophoric systems. Figure 1 illustrates some examples of assemblies and arrays from my group which exploit the oxophilic nature of Sn(IV)porphyrins for light harvesting

Ingrid Mergelsberg has completed her PhD in Organic Chemistry from the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg, Germany and her postdoctoral studies from the Rochester University, NY and Hoffmann LaRoche in Basel, Switzerland. She has published more than 30 papers and patents and has 27 years of experience in Chemical Development within the Pharmaceutical Industry always looking for opportunities to integrate the principles of green chemistry and engineering into the business of drug discovery and productions. She currently is a Director of Process Chemistry at Merck. She has served as a co-chair of the ACS Green Chemistry Institute Pharmaceutical Roundtable for two years and is currently leading the Green Chemistry working group and co-chairing the API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) leadership group at the International Consortium for Innovation and Quality in the Pharmaceutical Industry (IQ Consortium).

Hai-Feng Ji received his Ph.D. degree in chemistry from Chinese Academy of Science, China, in 1996. He is currently an associate professor in the Department of Chemistry at Drexel University. His research interests focus on micro/Nano sensors, MEMS devices, surface modification for sensors, and Nano assembly of organic molecules. He is currently a co-author of more than 120 peer-viewed journal articles and book chapters.

Abel E. Navarro received his Ph.D. degree in Biomolecular Chemistry at New York University. Now, as a junior Faculty at BMCC, he is developing new bioremediation alternatives for the elimination of pollutants from wastewaters as biodegradable and recyclable materials that can compete with the currently available techniques. Dr. Navarro has a publication record of more than 35 articles in specialized and peer-reviews journals, he is Associate Editor in different journals and has participated and chaired session in several conferences. John Glaser holds a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Georgia and has conducted research at the US Environmental Protection Agency for 32 years. He holds position as editor and advisory board member on several scientific journals. He has a collection of book and journal articles ranging from oil spill remediation development to environmental analytical criteria and beyond to applications of remote sensing to environmental issues.

Amy holds the world's first Ph.D. in Green Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts Boston. She is the co-founder and Executive Director of Beyond Benign, a non-profit organization dedicated to green chemistry education. Amy worked as an Assistant Professor and Director of Outreach and Community Education at the Center for Green Chemistry at UMass Lowell until 2007 when she started Beyond Benign. Amy has industrial experience as an analytical chemist for the Gillette Company and as a scientist for Rohm and Haas. Through Beyond Benign, she leads many initiatives aimed at transforming chemistry education in K-12 and higher education.

Wei Zhang is the Director of the Center for Green Chemistry at the University of Massachusetts Boston. He received his PhD and did his post-doctoral research at the University of Pittsburgh with late Prof. Paul Dowd. His previous positions include Research Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, Senior Chemist at DuPont Agricultural Products, and Director of Discovery Chemistry at Fluorous Technologies, Inc. Prof. Zhang’s research is in the areas of fluorous chemistry, free radical chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and green chemistry. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers including three in Chem. Rev., three Tetrahedron Reports, and a book “Green techniques for organic and medicinal applications” (Willey 2012). He is currently an editor of Green Processing and Synthesis and associate editor of Molecular Diversity. In addition to the Center for Green Chemistry, Dr. Zhang is also leading the effort on the Green Chemistry Ph.D. program, the first such program in the United States. He is the Board Member of ACS Green Chemistry Institute Curriculum Committee and Green Chemistry Commitment.

Pollet is currently at the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town as Professor of Energy Materials and Systems and Director of the DST Hydrogen South Africa (HySA) Systems Competence Centre (an industry oriented and led R&D Centre with a strong emphasis on demonstrator/prototype development and energy materials manufacturing). Professor Pollet is known in the field (both in academia and industry) to be a dynamic, energetic, enthusiastic, positive and visionary individual with expertise and experience in the research fields of Hydrogen Energy, PEMFC, Fuel Cell Electrocatalysis and Electrochemical Engineering. He has excellent leadership, communication and networking skills. He was formerly a co-founder and an Associate Director of the Birmingham Centre for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Research, and Operations and Delivery Director of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Doctoral Training Centre in Hydrogen, Fuel Cells and their Applications led by Professor Kevin Kendall FRS in the UK. Sivakumar Manickam is a Professor of Chemical and Nanopharmaceutical Process Engineering at the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus. His research group is focusing on the Process Engineering and Development of Nanomaterials especially Nanopharmaceuticals and Nanoformulations using novel, greener and energy efficient ultrasound and hydrodynamic cavitation techniques. Besides, his group is involved in the wastewater treatment techniques as well as in nanobiosensor development. He is also heading the Manufacturing and Industrial Processes Research Division and is the Director of the Centre for Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials (CENTAM). He was also the recipient of JSPS fellowship, Japan; the Fellow of Higher Education Academy (UK) and member of the Institute of Nanotechnology (IoN), UK. He has published more than 175 peer reviewed journal and conference papers and book chapters. Recently he edited a book on “Cavitation – A novel energy efficient technique for the generation of nanomaterials”. He is chairing the 2nd Asia-Oceania Sonochemical Conference during July 2015.

Suvardhan Kanchi was born in 1979. He studied chemistry at the Sri Venkateswara University, India. He holds an M.Sc degree (2001-2003) in Applied Chemistry and Ph.D., (2005-2010) in Analytical Chemistry from the same University. He joined with Prof. T.S. Chin’s team Feng Chia University, Taiwan as a Post Doctoral Fellow and was involved in the nano-confinement of gold nanoparticles and their characterization techniques. In the same lab, he developed green energy waste (bio-hydrogen/bio-diesel residue) into activated carbons and their characterization to evaluate the adsorption capacity of inorganic and organic wastes from aqueous solution. He is currently working as a Research Scientist at Durban University of Technology, Durban South Africa and his interest mainly involves in fabrication of biosensors to study electrochemical aspects of high intensity artificial sweeteners and developing protocols for the separation of organic molecules from food stuffs. Recently, he designed lab-made microbial fuel cell and generating electricity from waste waters and algae. He is lecturer and author & co-author of around 25 publications and editorial board member for 8 international journals. He is acting as a reviewer for more than 20 international journals. Tetsuya Suzuki is a Professor in Center for Environments, Resource and Energy at Keio University. He has completed his BSc in Inorganic Materials Science and DEng in Nuclear Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology. He was a Leader of several national projects operated by NEDO, JST, Kanto Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and Kanagawa Prefecture. His work covers carbon-based thin film coatings, plasma surface modification and DLC-related coatings for medical applications.

Prof. Dave Winkler is a Senior Principal Research Scientist at CSIRO Manufacturing in Clayton, and Adjunct Professor at Monash, Latrobe, Flinders, and Nottingham Universities. He has been at CSIRO for thirty years and has worked on a variety of projects involving the discovery of bioactive agents. He has substantial experience working with industry. Past and present industry clients include Amrad, Du Pont, Schering Plough, Bio-RAD. His work has also contributed to start up companies such as Starpharma and Betabiotics. His current research interests include: molecular design, computational chemistry, QSAR, complex systems, molecular modelling, stem cell modelling and simulation, computational nanotoxicology, design of materials, tissue engineering and biomaterials.He was a senior scientist at CSIRO for 30 years then moved to academia. He is interested in translational research aimed at understanding interactions between molecules, materials and biology. He’s a Fellow and past Board Chair of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute, a Fellow of the Asian Federation of Medicinal Chemistry (AFMC), past President of the AFMC and current President of the Federation of Asian Chemical Societies, the umbrella organization for all chemistry societies in the Asia-Pacific regions. He is a member of the organizing committee of the world’s largest international chemical congress, Pacifichem. He is a recent recipient of the RACI’s Adrien Albert award, the American Chemical Societ’s Herman Skolnik award, and the CSIRO Medal in Business Excellence. Geethu Kurup is currently pursuing PhD in water treatment in School of Science, RMIT University, Australia. She has completed her Master’s by research degree in Chemical Engineering. The research project was to utilize renewable energy source such as solar energy for biodiesel production using micro algae. Currently she is undertaking research to develop a sustainable approach to reduce the environmental impact of dairy sector.

Jun-Ichi Kadokawa holds PhD degree in Engineering. Currently, he is a Professor of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Chemical Engineering at Kagoshima University, Japan. He studied applied chemistry and materials chemistry at Tohoku University, where he received his MS degree in 1989 and PhD in 1992. He has then joined Yamagata University as a Research Associate. From 1996 to 1997, he has worked as a Visiting Scientist at the Max-Planck-Institute for Polymer Research in Germany. In 1999, he became an Associate Professor at Yamagata University and moved to Tohoku University in 2002. He was appointed as a Professor of Kagoshima University in 2004. His research interests focus on enzymatic synthesis of functional oligo- and polysaccharides and control of their higher-ordered structures. He has received the award for Encouragement of Research in Polymer Science (1997) and the Cellulose Society of Japan award (2009)

Chemoenzymatic synthesis of polysaccharide-grafted polymeric materials

Dequan Xiao completed his PhD at Duke University in 2009 and postdoctoral studies at Yale University from 2009 to 2013. He is the director of Center for Integrative Materials Discovery and the University Research Scholar at the University of New Haven. He is focused on integrating frontier chemical theories with experimental methods to drive the discovery of new materials for the applications in renewable energy and molecular drug design. He has published more than 36 papers in high-impact journals and 3 book chapters and has been served as the advisory board member of Connecticut NASA Space Grant Consoritum.

Prof. Mika Sillanpää is the head of the laboratory of Green Chemistry at the Lappeenranta University of Technology. His research work centers on chemical treatment in environmental engineering and environmental monitoring and analysis. More specifically, he is working extensively with adsorption, photocatalysis, electrochemical treatment and advanced oxidation processes as well as ion mobility spectrometry, chromatographic methods, electrochemical sensor development and real-time monitoring. He has published over 500 articles in reputable journals and international conference proceedings. Prof. Sillanpää is engaged in synergistic collaboration with over 50 research partners from the world’s leading laboratories in six continents. His papers have been published in journals such as Environmental Science & Technology, Journal of Chromatography A, Environment International, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Bioresource Technology, Advances in Colloid and Interface Science, Electrochemistry Communications, Biosensors & Bioelectronics, Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, Mass Spectrometry Reviews and Critical Reviews in Environmental Science & Technology (all having impact factor >4). Dr. Jinxue Jiang received his PhD at Washington State University in 2016 and completed postdoctoral training at the same university from 2016 to 2017. He is now the director of Chemistry and Technology at Eco Building Products, Inc., which is the leader in developing environmental friendly protective coatings for building materials. Dr. Jiang’s research interest is in the area of conversion of renewable bioresource into value-added energy and materials. His research efforts have been focused on fundamental understanding mechanochemical deconstruction of lignocellulosic biomass cell wall and valorizing cell wall components (i.e., cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin) into building blocks for biofuels and polymeric materials (e.g., carbon fiber, nano-composites, adhesives/coatings). Professor Moatamedi completed his MSc and PhD at The University of Sheffield, MBA at Manchester Business School of The University of Manchester; and LLM International Business Law at The University of Leeds. He holds the Chair of Multiphysics at University of Tromso in Norway. Prior to his current post he was the Technical Manager for the Centre for Nuclear Engineering at Imperial College London. Previously at Narvik University, Cranfield University, The University of Salford and The University of Sheffield, he held senior managerial positions and also carried out research and teaching in the areas of Multiphysics, Fluid Structure Interaction, Modelling and Simulations and Engineering Design. During his stay in Narvik he was the Founding Director of High North Technology Centre; at Cranfield the Director of Motorsport Engineering and Management; and at Salford the Director of the Centre for Engineering Materials and the Director of Aerospace Engineering. He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed publications, commercial reports and presentations including keynote addresses at international symposiums and conferences. He has risen substantial funding for research and innovation projects from the UK and overseas research councils, European Union, industry and other sources. He successfully supervised many PhD students to completion and many more graduate projects. He has extensive teaching experience on a wide range of engineering, management and law subjects including modelling and simulations, project management and intellectual property. He has been an external examiner for many research and teaching programmes internationally including the current engineering courses at Emirates Aviation University. Dr.Nana Sarfo Agyemang Derkyi is the Head of Energy and Environmental Engineering and a Renewable Energy Technologies Specialist by training and practice. He was trained at CIRAD, France in biomass technology as well as chemometric modelling and the applications of near infrared spectroscopy. He is versatile in renewable energy technologies trained at the Arava Institute of Environmental Studies, Israel. He also received an award from the Organization for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to be trained in Tandem GC-MS for the determination and monitoring of organic pollutants and other organic compounds at the Kenyatta University in Kenya. In addition to these he was also well trained on Food Technology at Shriram Research Institute in India on a scholarship affiliated with the Indian Government. He also received training in Green Technology and Economy in Pretoria, South Africa sponsored by UNEP, UNDP and Hisense International.
